WHAT WE DO:
We work in collaboration with schools, we listen to what they need and create programming and when appropriate, connect them to departments and resources at the U.
Building trust is at the center of this work.
College Access & Career Planning
We spend time in the high schools helping students complete FAFSA’s, apply to colleges and access scholarships. Most of this work is done 1:1 and in conjunction with the work of guidance counselors, Gear Up, UCAC advisors and Tutor/Mentors.
We attend college and career fairs and conduct workshops on resume writing, essay writing and the college admissions process.

Storytelling Camp
Each summer, students in grades 7-12 attend a week-long campus camp featuring creative workshops and activities. In partnership with the Marriott Library, College of Fine Arts, local radio stations, and Digital Learning Technologies, workshops include mural painting, photography, podcasting, bookmaking, animation, and video. The week concludes with a public “Storyfest,” showcasing student stories and fostering connections between native youth and the community. Students also explore careers through workplace visits and shadowing professionals, helping them envision themselves as part of the University community.

Middle School Storytelling Workshops
We work with teachers to create a multiday workshop that culminates in the students creating their own stories using photography, animation, mural making, zines and writing.

Eagle View Partnership
This community-based research project aims to improve educational outcomes for children in the Ute Tribe, focusing on Eagle View Elementary, with the goal of benefiting schools across the Uintah Basin. Since Fall 2023, the Ute Indian Tribe Education Department, Eagle View Elementary, and the University of Utah's Office of Undergraduate Studies and College of Education have collaborated to strengthen community ties, enhance literacy and math proficiency, and boost high school graduation rates. The partnership is guided by values of equal voice, trust, collaboration, and joy. We attend college and career fairs and conduct workshops on resume writing, essay writing and the college admissions process.
